Privacy policy

World of Games is a set of free geography and trivia games. We keep what we collect to the minimum needed to run the games, and we never sell it.

Playing without an account

You can play every game without signing up. To remember your progress, your browser keeps the following on your device, using its local storage:

When you save a score to a leaderboard, finish a daily game or send a challenge, we store that on our servers under your player id. That includes the name and avatar you chose, your scores and the challenge rounds. We store the secret key only in scrambled (hashed) form.

Where players are shown on the globe

The globe on the home page shows roughly where players are right now. Your spot is worked out from your device’s time zone, not from GPS or your IP address. Being shown is anonymous: the globe shows a country and which game you’re playing, not your name, unless you choose to share it (see below).

Signing in with Google (optional)

If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your account’s id, your name and your profile photo. We use these to link your progress across devices. We do not receive or store your email address or your password. Your profile photo and name only appear to other players on the live globe if you turn on Share my photo, and you can turn it off at any time. Google’s own use of your data is covered by Google’s privacy policy.

Live hosted games

When you join a live game with a code, the host’s screen and the other players see the name you type and your answers. A live game’s room, including those names and answers, is deleted automatically within 12 hours. Hosts sign in with Google, as above.

Cookies, analytics and ads

We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies. To count visits we may use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies or track you across sites. If we add advertising in future, we’ll update this policy first, and where the law requires it we’ll ask for your consent before any ad cookies are set.

Other services the pages use

Game photos are served from our own site. Their credits link to Wikimedia Commons, Unsplash and other sources, and those sites only see you if you follow a link.

Your choices

Children

The games are suitable for all ages, but sign-in and leaderboards aren’t aimed at children under 13. Please don’t sign in or put your real name on a leaderboard if you’re under 13.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top.
